Learning to draw a jacket can be harder than expected if you don’t know the right steps! Luckily, this guide will give you all the necessary steps! Our step-by-step guide to drawing a jacket will show you how to create your special jacket in no time.
How To Draw A Jacket
Step 1
To begin this tutorial on how to draw a jacket, let’s start with the jacket’s collar.
This image has many tiny lines and details. So don’t be afraid to copy our reference image as you proceed carefully!
Once you have drawn this collar, you are ready for the next step.
Step 2
In this step of the jacket design, you will work on the jacket’s sleeves. To do this, you can straighten your shoulders and pull up the sleeves from the sides of the collar, as shown in the reference image.
These will curve outwards on the jacket, allowing you to draw two straighter lines going down the sides of the inner jacket.
Step 3
Now that you have the collar and sleeves of the jacket, you can draw the opening for it in this step of our guide to drawing a jacket.
To do this, draw a series of straight lines showing the opening at the top of the jacket and meeting about halfway down the jacket where the zipper is closed. That’s all for this step, and you can move on!
Step 4
For this part of the jacket design, you can also draw the edges of the sleeve ends and the bottom of the jacket.
Once these borders are drawn, you can add long, thin rectangles for the jacket pockets. The reference image shows you how to position and align them.
Step 5
As mentioned in the previous part of our guide on drawing a jacket, we will focus on some final details and elements before coloring your image.
First, add some small lines to the edges you drew at the end of the sleeves. This gives them a stretchy look.
Once these details are added, you can draw buttons on the jacket with small shapes and lines.
This rounds out all the details in this guide, but you can also take this design further by adding details and elements!
One idea you might come up with would be to draw a fun design on the jacket or change some details.
If you’re particularly creative, you can also draw a head and hands sticking out of the holes in the jacket. Maybe you could even draw yourself wearing this jacket!

Step 6
Once the final details are drawn, it’s time to draw the jacket. This is also fun because you can now express yourself with awesome colors!
In our example image, we used some green and gray to color the image. However, this is a step where you can let your creativity run wild and use whatever colors you like!
Jackets come in many different styles and colors, so feel free to use any color or design you like!
Here, you can let your inner stylist out and create an incredible design.
Once you know how to color it, you can also have fun choosing the artistic mediums and tools you want to use to finish it.
You can use acrylic paints and colored pencils to give the picture a bright and vibrant look.
If you want a more subtle look, use watercolors or colored pencils. The choice is yours, and whatever you choose will be great!
